Kimm Sisson Blackwell

Hello! My name is Kimm Sisson Blackwell, and it is a pleasure to partner with you on your educational journey here at Laney College. Like you, I started my academic voyage at a community college in San Diego, before transferring to Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia where I majored in Psychology. After working as a Social Worker, I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from JFKU, specializing in Sport Psychology.

I’ve been a Counselor for many years in Transfer, EOP/S, Umoja, CalWORKs and as a UC Berkeley admissions reader. I currently work with all students here at Laney, as well as students in the Military, Veterans and their families. I have a ton of experience with pre-Med, pre-Nursing and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) students, but also enjoy the Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities. Besides loving my work and two children, I enjoy outdoor activities, cooking (and eating!), travel and passionate discussions about race & culture, relationships, stress management, parenting, and nutrition.
