In comparison to Turnitin.com, Engrade is limited in that it lacks the plagiarism check feature and students still have turn in physical copies of their work, however, it does make the grading process easy for the instructor and it makes grades accessible for students. Engrade demystifies grading by calculating grades for you. It also allows students to sign in and check their grades at any point. I tell students to make checking their grades a normal part of their day. I tell them to wake up and, “Check your Facebook, check your Instagram, check your twitter, check your Engrade.” Engrade (like Turnitin.com) allows you to see the last time students have checked their accounts. If a student’s grade is slipping and they haven’t checked their account to notice then you can drop the student a message at any time and it goes directly to their emails. You can also contact the entire class and send a group message with an attachment (Engrade limits you to one attachment per message). And of course you can take attendance using Engrade as well.
So in conclusion although Engrade does not have all of the features of Turnitin.com it is most certainly better than manually calculating grades and having students depend on you to tell them what their grade is. Engrade helps to put the power in their hands.
