Have we got a treat for you!
What started as an idea from Laney College student, Randell Thompson, has brought many enthusiastic great people from a wide range of organizations together for a common cause. In the fashion of “American Idol”, “The Voice”, or “X Factor”, students from seven community colleges auditioned to compete in the final competition between 10 performances. The 10 finalists all have equal chance at reaching the top prize of radio airtime on both KMEL and KPFA, performing live at a City of Oakland festival, and possibly being discovered by producers, or recording artists. All of this is with the intent of using music and pop culture as a vehicle to effect real change in fighting the HIV epidemic. For this ground breaking public health intervention, several nationally recognized HIV organizations have joined forces with Laney College, KMEL, and KPFA. Those in attendance will benefit from both live entertainment and valuable information and services. Be sure to arrive thirty minutes early as tickets are free with a confidential HIV oral mouth swab test.
If enjoy music and want to make a difference for our community, you won’t want to miss this!
