IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS ENTERING IN FALL 2009 OR LATER:
Beginning Fall 2009, the general education requirement in mathematics (known as “Area 4b” in Laney College Catalog ) for the associate degree has been raised. This affects those students entering in Fall 2009 or later who are seeking an associate degree. To fulfill the new requirement, students have to pass at least either Intermediate Algebra (Math 203, Math 205AB, or Math 211ABCD), or Geometry(Math 202) — in general, any of those courses in the encircled region in the flowchart shown below.
Students who entered before Fall 2009, provided they maintain a certain level of continuing enrollment (See Catalog for details), may be able to retain their “catalog rights”, allowing them to use Elementary Algebra (Math 201 or Math 210ABCD) to fulfill the Area 4b requirement.
