Media Communications

OVERVIEW

The Media Communications program offers courses in HD and 4K video production, broadcasting, and post-production for digital video, film, radio and the broadcast arts. There are two major degrees and five certificates which offer entry into the industry or transfer to a four-year institution. The courses cover the gamut of authoring, producing, and editing creative content for the continually evolving communications technologies.
We are always adding new state-of-the-art  industry changes to our curriculum, including using drones in production and Immersive Design. We are also currently working on non credit, mirrored versions of many of our courses.

A degree in media communications can open up a variety of career opportunities in the fast-paced and ever-evolving field of media, journalism, advertising, public relations, and more. Here are some potential career paths you could pursue with a degree in media communications:

  1. Journalism: Work as a reporter, correspondent, or editor for newspapers, magazines, online publications, or broadcast outlets, covering news, features, sports, or entertainment.
  2. Broadcasting: Pursue a career in television or radio broadcasting as a news anchor, reporter, producer, or director.
  3. Digital Media Production: Work in digital media production, creating content for online platforms, including video production, podcasting, social media management, and multimedia storytelling.
  4. Advertising and Marketing: Enter the advertising or marketing industry as a media planner, account executive, creative director, or copywriter, helping to develop and execute advertising campaigns across various media channels.
  5. Public Relations: Become a public relations specialist, managing communication between organizations and the public, including media relations, crisis communication, and reputation management.
  6. Corporate Communications: Work in corporate communications for businesses, non-profit organizations, or government agencies, managing internal and external communication strategies, including employee communication, media relations, and public affairs.
  7. Social Media Management: Specialize in social media management, helping organizations build and maintain their online presence through platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
  8. Content Creation and Curation: Create and curate content for online platforms, including blogs, websites, and digital publications, as well as managing content strategy and engagement.
  9. Media Research and Analysis: Conduct media research and analysis for market research firms, media companies, or advertising agencies, analyzing audience demographics, media consumption trends, and advertising effectiveness.
  10. Freelance Work: Pursue freelance opportunities in writing, editing, photography, videography, or design, working on a project basis for various clients or publications.
