Two standout students scored exceptionally high on the test, which consisted of 20 questions at two-points each. Individually, Mingshi Song ranks 7th in the nation and Haodong Feng ranks 12th. In the West Region, Song currently ranks 3rd, while Feng ranks 6th.

“Very rarely do we see students who score beyond 30 points and this semester, we have not one but two! We managed to get into the top five and tied for third in the nation,” says Hungwen Chang, Mathematics Instructor at Laney College.

Laney tied in third place with De Anza College and Schoolcraft College.

The Round 2 edition will take place in spring 2020.

Each semester, the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges sponsors this competition and offers scholarships to eligible students who rank No. 1 in the nation.
