We join with communities across the globe as we recognize the influence of LGBTQ+ people and support the value of education in raising awareness and inclusivity in our communities. At the same time, we recognize there is much work to be done at Laney College for faculty, staff and students to feel comfortable being open without fear of physical and emotional harm. As we grapple with the continued assault and murder of Black Americans, we also know the crisis of fatal violence and harassment toward Queer Black people, and particularly Black transgender women, is all too evident.
In an effort to call out and embrace our intersections and interconnectedness, we redesigned the Laney College Pride logo to be more reflective of the communities we serve. It is both a call to recognize and represent those marginalized individuals within the LGBTQ+ community, but also raise our consciousness that intersectional identities and oppression exist. It is our commitment to institutional growth and progress.
