A powerful op-ed piece written by Laney College President Tammeil Gilkerson was published on the Oakland Post on Wednesday, Aug. 24.
President Gilkerson’s message highlights the essential role Laney College has played over the years in the City of Oakland and how it continues to transform the lives of people in East Bay Communities as well as the city itself.
“…for decades Laney has been disrupting the negative narrative about the City and the community we serve by celebrating the rich cultural backgrounds, resiliency and intelligence that our students embody,” Gilkerson wrote. “Our students are warriors who despite centuries of racial, social and economic oppression, continue to rise and seek out opportunities to better their lives and their communities.”
