The Laney College Choir (aka Oakland City Chorus) will perform Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms.” Written for the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1930, this piece is beloved around the world for it’s deep spirituality and music that combines early Twentieth-Century modernism with a familiar accessibility.

Also on the program is the world premier of Preben Antonsen’s “The World is Charged” on a poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins. Preben grew up in the East Bay, attended the John Adam’s Young Composers Program at the Crowden School in Berkeley and later graduated from Yale University. He is now a freelance composer in the Bay Area.

Our small group of singers (semi-chorus) will perform a delightful Mass by Renaissance composer Hans Leo Hassler known as “Missa secunda.”

There will also be music in Hebrew, Spanish, and the Spiritual “Glory to the Newborn King.”

Tickets at the door or in advance.
