Peralta Colleges Shine Bright at CCPRO 2025

The Peralta Community College District made a significant splash at the recent Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO) 2025 conference held on beautiful Shelter Island in San Diego! Mark Johnson, Peralta’s Executive Director of Marketing, Communication & Public Relations and a member of the CCPRO board for nearly three years, shared his excitement about the impactful three-day event, which brought together talented colleagues and leaders in the field. 

Adding to the excitement, Peralta Colleges demonstrated its exceptional talent and dedication by bringing home an impressive total of SEVEN awards! This remarkable achievement underscores the outstanding work being done across our district.

1st Place Wins:

  • Newsletter: A huge shout-out to Chanda Brewer for her outstanding work on the Laney Eagle Student Newsletter, originally started by Laney's onboarding team, SOAR!
  • Poster: Congratulations to Faiza Ali and Marcus Creel for their visually compelling sports schedules!
  • Media Success Story: A fantastic win for the buzz surrounding Gary Payton becoming the new men’s basketball coach at College of Alameda (COA)!

2nd Place Honors:

  • Press Release: Well done to Thomas Rizza for his impactful press release announcing the Berkeley City College (BCC) Milvia Street groundbreaking!
  • Ad Campaign: Congratulations to the entire PCCD team for the engaging and successful Love Your Future Fall 2024 campaign!
  • Internal Communication: A well-deserved recognition for Marcus and the entire PCCD team for the inspiring Passion Purpose Possibilities video, included as part of Chancellor Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson’s powerful January 2024 flex speech!

Blooper of the Year:

Our team brought home some laughs (and an award!) for the unforgettable video of our drone's brief encounter with a hungry tree on the Laney College quad – thankfully, it was rescued!

Mark Johnson expressed his immense pride in representing Peralta and acknowledged the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. "Everyone earned this recognition, and I couldn't be more proud to represent Peralta," he stated.

This collective success is a testament to the Passion, Purpose, Possibilities, and teamwork that drive us at the Peralta Colleges. We look forward to continuing to elevate our work and serve our East Bay community with excellence.
