10-10:50am YOUR ROLE in Accreditation and Institutional Learning Outcomes in Apocalyptic Times (Chris Weidenbach, Rebecca Bailey, Rudy Besikof, Heather Sisneros, Tammeil Gilkerson)

Description: Do we, as an institution, recognize the importance of accreditation and assessment? We’ll discuss how Laney is doing with the Global Awareness ILO – including results of the work already done, plus show you how your spring classes can participate in quick and easy surveys for college-wide assessment. Looking for a more substantial way to assess? We’ve got rubrics for global awareness, civic responsibility, social justice, ethics, cultural diversity, and environmental responsibility. We’ll discuss the results of current work during fall professional development.

11-11:50am    Creating and Grading with Rubrics in Canvas (Mark Fields)

Description: This beginner-level session will introduce you to the rubrics tools in Canvas.  You will see how to locate rubrics created by other faculty as well as how to create your own custom rubric.  With Canvas, your rubric tool allows you to grade faster and provide more robust feedback including video or audio feedback.

Description: Is your department new to noncredit? Are you teaching a noncredit class in summer or fall? Laney has started teaching noncredit classes and we currently have over 30 noncredit classes approved at State. Come learn the basics, including a tool on how to take hourly attendance in noncredit or positive attendance classes, to prepare for a successful transition into noncredit. Bring questions, plans, and ideas.

Description: APASS Director David Lee and industry partner Carrie Straub of Mursion will demonstrate new online tools they are developing to help students manage the transition to online learning and online delivery of student services.  Join us for this interactive and fun presentation where you will learn about the amazing resources available to educators to help students succeed.

AFTERNOON WORKSHOP SESSION I

1-1:50pm         Learn to make and use TED-Ed lessons on any subject.  It’s not just TED Talks!  (Steven Zetlan)

Description: TED-Ed is a free app that helps you create lessons based on any video, from anywhere, that you find or create (not just TED talks).  Lessons can include multiple choice questions, short answers, discussions, and links.  Students do not need a password nor do they need to sign in, but you can still track their answers.  We will look at some completed lessons and student responses, learn how to create a lesson and look at a lesson from both a student and teacher perspective.

1-1:50am    How to Best Serve Students with Disabilities in an Online Environment (Nate Failing and Irina Rivkin) 

Description: This workshop will help faculty and staff understand the resources Canvas has to offer in working with students with accommodations.  The workshop will also cover websites that could be helpful, accommodations that faculty and staff should be aware of, and how to work with students in a trauma-sensitive manner.

Description: Creative Writing instructor / disciple / proselytizer Chris Weidenbach (English) guaran-dang-tees you will do some successful writing! Liberating advice and short-burst writing nudges will let you take a creative vacation from all dutiful concerns! We’ll use Zoom and Padlet — NO LOGIN REQUIRED — to write on-the-spot, and share, and celebrate what happens when we “follow the little golden thread”!!!
