The Writing Center’s Online Tutorial Services begin August 30th.
Online Tutoring Services
Peralta students will send their typed papers, completed Tutoring Session Sign-up Form, and prompt or instructions from their teacher, to the following email account ” email@example.com .” Students will put their names and the title of their papers on the subject line of their email.
All tutoring sessions are 30 minutes and will be available Monday-Thursday 9am-8pm and Friday 9am-3pm. Students can follow the step-by-step instructions below.

How to fill out the fillable online tutoring forms
First, choose the correct tutoring form. If you wish to get help with Grammar, select the Grammar tutoring form. If you want to get general tutoring help, select the General Tutoring form. Now, double click on the form you chose.
A small window will appear and ask what you want to do with the document. Click ‘Save as’.
The ‘Save As’ window will appear on your screen and you should save the document to your computer desktop.
Click the ‘Save’ button.
On the bottom of your computer screen you will see a small horizontal prompt outlined in yellow.
The fillable tutoring form that you choose will open up. You can now fill out the tutoring form. Click on the check boxes called “Possible Goals,” and the tutor can assist you. Also, you can answer the questions on the form by writing on the lines. When you have completed filling out the form, save it again.
Next, log-in to your email account so you can send an email message to ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’. You will send the following information:
In the subject line of your email, type your name and the title of your paper
In the body of your email, type your student ID number and the time you are available for a tutoring session
Attach your completed tutoring form to your email
Attach a copy of your written draft to your email
Attach a copy of your prompt or assignment sheet to your email
The final step is to send your email message to ‘ email@example.com .’
We will reply to your email within 24 hours during our regular operating hours. You will receive a confirmation email for your tutoring session, and information on how to call in or use a computer to join your tutoring session using the Zoom video conferencing software.

The James Oliver Community Writing Center
The James Oliver Community Writing Center provides writing support to students that is all part of a total across-the-curriculum writing resource that aids matriculation by helping students have successful learning outcomes (SLOs).
The Writing Center Drop-In lab (room B260) provides students with computers to write their essay assignments, printing services (10 pages/day), trained lab assistants to assist students with their service requests, as well as English tutors for one-on-one tutoring on a drop-in basis. In addition, the Writing Center supports supplemental instruction in the English and ESL departments through the scheduling of Writing Workshops in rooms B261 and B262.
The Writing Center Staff whose office is in room B258 consists of Terrence Fisher, Computer Network Technician, Pamela Crumpton, Instructional Assistant, and student workers (both Lab Assistants and English Tutors). Teachers can contact Terrence (510.464.3426) and or Pamela (510.464.3163) via email or phone to schedule lab orientations as well as instructional lab room usage in B261.
