Laney College is proud to announce that President Rebecca Opsata has been sworn in as a member of the Oakland Workforce Development Board (WDB). Her appointment marks an important step in strengthening the connection between Peralta Community College District campuses and local workforce initiatives.
President Opsata brings the unique perspective of the community college system—ensuring that local training aligns with the real needs of employers and the aspirations of students.
Laney College offers hands-on training in high-demand industries such as Engineering, Construction, Business, Advanced Manufacturing, Green Technology, Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, and more. These programs connect students to internships, certifications, and employment pathways that lead to strong wages and long-term career growth.
President Opsata’s participation on the Oakland WDB also reflects the broader commitment of the Peralta Community College District to workforce development. All four colleges—Laney, Merritt College, College of Alameda, and Berkeley City College—offer career education programs that serve as engines of economic mobility for thousands of students across the East Bay.
