Laney College is proud to recognize Graphic Arts students Danny Tello and Felicia Gonzalez, who earned second and third place, respectively, in the Visual Media Alliance (VMA) Design Contest.
Their original cover designs were selected for the Connect Magazine Earth Day issue, a statewide competition that celebrates creativity with a focus on environmental awareness. Competing against students from across California, Danny and Felicia impressed the judges with bold, thoughtful visuals that communicated powerful messages about sustainability and the planet.
“It’s amazing to be recognized for something I love doing,” said Danny Tello.
“This was a chance to show how art can inspire change,” added Felicia Gonzalez.
The two students developed their winning submissions under the guidance of David Santamaria and Daniela Pachtrapanska Graphic Arts and Media Instructors at Laney College.
“We love giving the students real world assignments and seeing them challenge themselves. In this instance, with very little creative direction, but lots of support and feedback, they created beautiful award-winning designs. ,” said David Santamaria.
These accomplishments reflect the high caliber of Laney’s Graphic Arts program, which equips students with the creative and technical skills needed to thrive in today’s design industries. From hands-on projects to portfolio development, the program encourages students to explore design as a tool for communication and impact.
