Welcome to my Chem 30A webpage.
Chem 30A is the first of a two-semester sequence of introductory chemistry intended for students wishing to specialize in the health sciences such as nursing, dietetics, physical therapy, nutrition and the like. The first semester introduces the basic principles governing the science of chemistry. The second semester takes the student into organic chemistry, the chemistry of life, including an introduction to biological chemistry. On this site you will find

About your instructor: I taught part-time at Laney and College of Alameda for about 10 years after retiring from a career that spanned education, research, and environmental cleanup. I have now had about four years to rest up for my present assignment at Laney. I was educated in the public schools of Green Bay and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I received a BA in chemistry and mathematics from Grinnell College, Iowa, and a PhD in physical organic chemistry from the U of Minnesota.
I have taught a variety of chemistry courses at Cornell University (1961-3), the University of Hawaii (1963-75), and California State University – Long Beach (1975-6) in addition to my post-retirement teaching positions within Peralta CCD.
My hobbies include golf, genealogy, duplicate bridge, fitness, travel and ethnic music. I sing in two ethnic choruses, Norwegian and German.
