Vision Statement:

The Social Justice Center is rooted in the rich Oakland legacy of visionary activism with the objective of making Laney College an epicenter in the movement for the public good, social justice, and democracy.

Values and Principles:

  • Community transformation
  • Local and Global Solidarity
  • Social justice
  • Empowerment
  • Engaged learning
  • Grassroots, bottom up
  • Commitment to the Public Good
  • Student-centered
  • Think Global, Act Local

Student Organizing Cohort

Laney is committed to providing opportunities for students to build organizing skills and knowledge outside of the classroom, and to apply the knowledge they’ve gained to empower community members and fellow students. Laney students can apply to serve as hourly paid student organizers and be a part of a student cohort of organizers. All Laney students are welcome to organize and volunteer, regardless if they serve as a paid organizer. This amazing cohort of leaders meet weekly and are given access to a project advisor, monthly trainings, team building and student/community organizing

In fall 2018 and spring 2019, the student leaders will be focused on developing relationships with immigrant rights organizations and organizing campus activities to support undocumented community members and students. They will also work in collaboration with the Berkeley City College Undocumented Community Resource Center

Apply for fall 2018-spring 2019 Student Cohort
