Construction Management – A.S. Degree

The Construction Management Associate of Science Degree program provides students, who work in, or plan to enter the construction industry the career readiness skills necessary to be competitive in the job market. Upon successful completion of the program students are able to manage residential and/or commercial projects and will have the knowledge and skills necessary for employment. Emphasis is placed on project management best practices, inspection, estimating, scheduling, and the legal and business aspects of construction. This year can be completed in 2- 3 years or less. Students are encouraged to attend a four-year institution after graduating.

Upon completion of this program a student will be able to:
1. Communication: Demonstrate the ability to community effectively within cross-functional teams within the construction industry.
2. Technical Skills: Create, assemble, and generate relevant, technical reports for both real-world and simulated construction projects.
3. Critical Thinking: Create work plans, construct project management plans and design work schedules for execution of construction.

Students will be prepared for careers in building inspection, construction project managers, site superintendents, careers in building and planning, and as licensed contractors.


Certificates of Achievement


Construction Management – Certificate of Achievement

The Construction Management degree and certificate programs can be completed in 2-years or less and prepare students to manage both residential and nonresidential construction projects. Students will gain career-ready skills through analysis, interpretation, application and problem-solving curriculum. Program curriculum include the fundamentals in best practice related to project management, scheduling, estimating, building codes and standards interpretation, inspections, legal aspects of construction and risk management. In addition, some emphasis is placed on sustainable construction practices and the specific role the California Energy Standards and other 3rd party green building rating systems has on the built-environment. This program includes curriculum related to green building certification through several pathways including LEED fundamentals.

Upon completion of this program a student will be able to:
1. Communication: Cite, list, and write effectively to communicate the intent of project scope of work and construction documents used in the construction process cross-functional teams.
2. Critical Thinking: Create work plans, construct project management plans and design work schedules for execution of construction projects.
3. Technical Skills: Create, assemble, and generate relevant, technical reports for both real-world and simulated construction projects.

Students will be prepared for careers in building inspection, construction project managers, site superintendents, careers in building and planning, and as licensed contractors.


California Green & Sustainable Building Standards – Certificate of Achievement

The Certificate of Achievement in California Green & Sustainable Building fills the gap for students wanting to gain knowledge as it relates to the complex California energy building requirements. Students will learn concepts related to sustainable architecture, California Title 24 Part 6 & 11, green rating systems, and LEED exam preparation. Upon completion, students will be career ready for industry entry level, project/construction management positions.

Upon completion of this program a student will be able to:
1. Communicate in written, oral and visual forms to express the principles of sustainable management .
2. Analyze Title 24 Energy Compliance Documentation regarding the impact the building design
3. Analyze architectural, lighting, and HVAC design to determine their effectiveness at meeting or exceeding Title 24 Energy Code Requirements.

Project coordinator, project management positions, serve as LEED liaison for project seeking certification, work for
general contractors, engineers or architects.


Building Codes and Inspections – Certificate of Achievement

The Building Codes and Inspections Certificate of Achievement program is designed to prepare students for a variety of construction industry careers. This program fosters comprehension and application of building codes and standards. Students who successfully complete this program will be able to apply the Uniform Building Code and the California Code of Regulations, Title 24 fundamentals to the built environment. Students will become fluent in referencing, analyzing, interpreting and applying Title 24. Students will be prepared for careers in inspections, building and planning, site supervision, project management and as licensed contractors. This program can be completed in 2-years or less.

Upon completion of this program a student will be able to:
1. Illustrate the ability to reference the Uniform Building Code and the Title 24 California Standards Code for both residential and nonresidential buildings.
2. Identify building code triggers by evaluating project scope of work for residential buildings.
3. Interpret the Uniform Building Code and the California Building Standards Code, California Code of Regulation, Title 24 to illustrate what design criteria is suitable for a range of project scenarios.

Students will be prepared for careers in building inspection, construction project managers, site superintendents, careers in building and planning, and as licensed contractors.
