It’s official. We now have food guidelines represented on a plate instead of a pyramid. Marion Nestle and CNN have excellent summaries of the history of food guidelines in the U.S. Is the plate food guide easier to understand than previous versions? Will it be better at encouraging healthy eating?
Update: Marion Nestle wrote a question & answer article for the SF Chronicle here. Her major objection is the “protein” section of the plate. Protein is a nutrient, not a food group. In her article Nestle gives some possible reasons why they used that word.
