Laney College is dedicated to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+.


We have compiled a list of local resources to help you find the support and community you need while attending our college in Oakland, CA.


On-Campus Resources

Queer Community Center

The QCC at Laney College aims to foster a supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students, faculty members, and staff by establishing a safe and brave space in the Student Center for gathering and connection. It offers educational programs and workshops to empower students with knowledge about their rights, identities, and resources. The center also organizes field trips and non-academic activities to promote community and enjoyment. Additionally, it partners with other existing campus services to provide holistic support, including counseling, healthcare, and academic assistance, aiming to build a cohesive and inclusive campus community.

Local Community Resources

The Oakland LGBTQ Community Center offers a variety of support services, including counseling, support groups, social events, and resources for housing, healthcare, and legal assistance.

The Pacific Center provides mental health services, peer support groups, and community events for the LGBTQIA+ community.

National Resources

Advocacy and Support
A leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQIA+ youth. They offer a 24/7 helpline, online chat, and text support.
GLAAD works to ensure fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of LGBTQIA+ people in media. They provide resources and support for advocacy and awareness.
The HRC is the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for LGBTQIA+ Americans. They offer resources on coming out, healthcare, and legal rights.


Health and Wellness
Provides educational programs, resources, and consultation to healthcare organizations to improve health care for LGBTQIA+ people.
Offers comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care, including services tailored for LGBTQIA+ individuals.


Legal Assistance
A national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of LGBTQIA+ people and those living with HIV through impact litigation, education, and public policy work.
Works to change law, policy, and attitudes so that all people can live safely, authentically, and free from discrimination regardless of their gender identity or expression.
