Laney College Participates in Great California ShakeOut
On Thursday, Oct. 19, students, faculty, classified staff, and administrators participated in the state-wide earthquake drill — The Great California ShakeOut.
Safety aides and other college personnel were ready at various campus locations at 10:45 a.m to announce that the exercise was starting. Faculty and students in classrooms practiced the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” technique for 60-seconds. After the drill, everyone was encouraged to discuss the exercise to identify potential hazards.
The drill was coordinated by the Health, Safety, and Security Committee and the Business & Administrative Services Office. Laney’s Public Information Office promoted the event on social media, campus TV monitors, email, and on the website.
A total of 271 California colleges and universities participated in the drill this year, according to ShakeOut.org, including Laney’s two sister colleges, Merritt and College of Alameda.
