“I have been grateful to attend the first 4 respectful care workshops at laney covering transgender issues, pregnancy and childbirth, and health care needs of special needs population (specifically for people with autism). I feel inspired to be entering the health care field with people who are active in learning and educating themselves and others to create change.
I encourage you to contact Rebecca Bailey to lead a workshop! I led one of the workshops and found that it was easier than I thought! Fellow students were happy to share information and support the workshop making it easy to bring some of my own thoughts and questions. Bringing what you know and are interested in us a great way to affect so many people who are going into the health care field.

“I attended the most recent workshop on transgender issues in health care. As a prospective women’s health care provider, I hope to bring compassion, respect, and expertise to my clinical practice. Education on a wide variety of health care issues (i.e. access to care, health care disparities, reproductive rights, etc.) is key to my success as an effective advocate and provider. The transgender workshop opened my mind to a number of challenges individuals face in a health care setting. Bias, judgment, and refusal of care are just a few of these issues. Hearing personal experiences as well as engaging in group discussions on this topic were tremendously informative and interesting. I would definitely attend future workshops on respectful care, and strongly encourage anyone considering a career in the health care field to attend one as well. Thank you!” -
