Laney College Honors Transfer Students at BEST Center Ceremony

On May 14th, a bright spring afternoon, the Laney College Transfer Center hosted its annual Transfer Student Celebration at the BEST Center, honoring students who have reached a major milestone in their academic journey—transferring to four-year universities.

The event brought together students, families, and faculty in a warm, celebratory gathering that recognized not only the students’ achievements, but also the resilience, determination, and support that helped make those successes possible.

The celebration was made possible through the leadership of Cynthia Taing, Counseling Co-Chair and overseer of the Transfer Center, along with Laura Ramos, Transfer Center Program Specialist. Their planning, care, and dedication ensured a meaningful and welcoming experience for all attendees.

The program began with check-in and mingling, followed by a formal welcome and opening remarks. Laney College President Dr. Becky Opsata and Vice President of Student Services Dr. Lily Espinoza offered words of encouragement and recognition, celebrating the students' hard work and perseverance.

A highlight of the event was the Student Voices segment, where transfer students shared personal reflections on their academic journeys at Laney—expressing gratitude for faculty, counselors, and peers who helped them reach this milestone.

During the Certificate and Medallion Presentation, each transfer student was personally recognized and honored with a certificate and commemorative Laney medallion, symbolizing their accomplishments and their place in the Laney community.

The event concluded with words of appreciation and pride, affirming that while these students are moving on to new campuses and new goals, they will always be part of the Laney College family.

This Transfer Celebration serves as a powerful reminder of what’s possible through education, support, and community.
