Nine Sophomores Honored as Eagles Finish Strong at Home
Laney College Women’s Basketball closed out its final home game of the season in unforgettable fashion on Tuesday, February 17, honoring its sophomore class and continuing one of the most impressive seasons in recent program history.
Before tipoff, the Student Center was buzzing as ASLC and the President’s Office hosted a pre-game pizza tailgate for students, employees, and fans. The celebration brought the campus community together to recognize the team’s success and send off a special group of student-athletes.

A Meaningful Sophomore Night
The evening carried added significance as nine of the team’s ten sophomores prepare to transfer and continue their academic and athletic journeys at the next level. Head Coach Bryan Gardere ensured each sophomore was individually recognized prior to the game, with a microphone presentation, photo opportunities, and a full team moment before tipoff.

A Season to Remember
The Eagles entered the final home contest riding an extraordinary wave of momentum. Laney finished Bay Valley Conference play a perfect 13-0 and carried an 18-game winning streak into the matchup.
Overall, the team posted an outstanding 22-3 record, averaging 84.7 points per game while showcasing one of the most balanced and disciplined attacks in the conference. Their defensive intensity and offensive efficiency made them a dominant force throughout the season.
Laney capped off the night with a commanding 111-63 victory over Napa Valley College, giving fans one more electric performance inside the Laney College Gymnasium.

More Than Basketball
While the stats speak volumes, the true impact of this season goes beyond the scoreboard. With nine sophomores preparing to transfer, this group represents the mission of Laney Athletics — academic success, competitive excellence, and leadership development.
