ZTC & LTC For Students

For many students, textbooks are one of the most expensive parts of attending college. That is why many instructors offer classes that are Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) or Low Textbook Cost (LTC).

Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) Classes

ZTC
ZTC classes have no cost for any textbooks or required software. You may need to pay for some classroom supplies like art supplies or kitchen knives.
ZTC classes generally use OER, openly licensed materials created by experts in the field that you can use online or print. You may also use library materials.

In ZTC classes you will:
  • Save money since all materials are free.
  • Be able to start in the first week of class, since you will not need to wait for books to be delivered or the bookstore to restock them.
  • Have equal opportunities, since all students in the class will have access to the same resources.

Low Textbook Cost (LTC) Classes

Low Cost Text Books
LTC classes have required books or software that can be bought new at the Laney Bookstore or $50 or less. Sometimes you will also be able to save money by renting, buying a used book, or buying an electronic book.  You may need to pay for some classroom supplies, such as paint for art classes or kits for culinary classes.
